En ella dos viajeros protagonistas(Yajirobei y Kitahachi) recorren, haciendo papelones y cosas comicas, a lo largo del Tookai-doo[東海道](Camino de Tokai, que une a Edo y Kioto) hasta llegar a Osaka. Este serie tuvo exito tan grande que continuo 20 anios. 2.´Shank´s Mare´[Hizakurige] follows two amiable scoundrels, Yajirobei and Kitahachi, on a madcap journey of adventure and misadventure along the great highway leading from Tokyo to Kyoto. The lusty tale of their disreputable doings is Japan´s most celebrated comic novel. Issued serially in 1802,´Hizakurige´was a tremendous success both with readers of its own time and with later generations. The book´s earthy humor typifies the brash and devil-may-care attitude of the residents of Tokyo, both then and now. ´To go on shank´s mare´is an English as well as Japanese idiom meaning to walk. It expresses a certain kind of travel, a contemplative journey, in which speed is not so important. ´Ikku Jippensha´is the pen name of Sadakazu Shigeta [1765-1831], Japan´s greatest comic novelist, who introduced the initial serial installments of Shank´s Mare to the Japanese public in 1802. he is to Japan what Dickens is to England, both in the vernacular quality of his writing and the earthy style of his characters. |
