(★)(地下水盆の環境管理／ The Research Group for Water Balance was established by Professor Dr. Tatsuo Shibasaki in 1964 and membership was made up of young geologists and engineers who were working in the field of applied geology in ministries and agencies of the government, municipal corporations, universities, research institutes, and private geological consulting firms. The members of the group collaborated on studies concerning the relationship between human society and nature through research and a survey of applied geology.／ Many serious environmental pollution problems occurred in Japan during its period of high economic growth in the 1960s, and environmental destruction became a serious social issue. In the field of hydrogeology, many groundwater problems were occurring because of the excessive punpage of groundwater. The group carried out research on the basin-wide control to solve groundwater problems, not only from a scientific point of view, but also from a socio-economic perspective. It systematized the techniques of groundwater basin management, applied its theories to each problem site, and succeeded in revealing the mechanism of the problems.／ The group carried out much research not only in Japan but also abroad, and the findings of such research have been published in many books and journals mostly written in Japanese. The present book, ´Environmental Management of Groundwater Basins´ is based on those publications, and it could be called the first summary in English of the research done by the group in the last 30 years.) |
